Overview

Eunpa Lake Park is a beautiful park centered around a lake where you can enjoy nature as it is, with cycling paths, a natural lotus habitat, and more. Built around the Mije Reservoir adjacent to downtown Gunsan, Eunpa Tourist Area is a national tourist site of about 700,000 pyeong, where the calm lake and dense forest covering the low hills blend together, letting you feel nature up close within the city.

In particular, the night view of Eunpa Mulbit Bridge creates a brilliant multicolored scene with lights reflecting off the water, leaving a strong impression when you cross the lake and look out over the nightscape. Inside the park, there is a boating area, Meeting Square, and a Memorial Tower honoring independence patriots from Gunsan and Okgu, so you can enjoy walking, relaxing, and light historical exploration all at once. The quiet atmosphere of Eunjuksa Temple and Okguhyanggyo, steeped in old legends, adds to the appeal, making this one of Gunsan’s signature nature destinations where you can take your time walking and lingering over the course of a day.

Program Information

Eunpa Mulbit Bridge

This bridge was created based on the Jungbau legend handed down at Eunpa Reservoir, and is shaped to represent Aegibau, Jungbau, and Gaebau rocks. From the bridge you can look at both the natural scenery and the lights reflected on the lake; at night in particular, the illuminated view is striking. A simple walk across this bridge, where water and light blend together, is enough to give you a deep sense of relaxation.

Boating Experience

There is a boating facility making use of the wide and calm waters of Eunpa Lake. Gliding slowly over the water lets you enjoy the surrounding scenery from a different perspective, offering a more leisurely time than walking alone. It’s a light activity that’s great for families or couples.

Meeting Square & Memorial Tower

Meeting Square covers about 23,000 pyeong and is shaded by over 100 zelkova trees. Here you’ll find a Memorial Tower honoring independence patriots from Gunsan and Okgu, making it a good spot to pause your walk and spend a quiet moment. The wide-open square and commemorative space together form one of the symbolic places of Eunpa Tourist Area.

Eunpa Lake Walking Trail

The walking trail that follows the lake has plenty of benches and pavilions along the way, making it ideal for leisurely strolls with frequent breaks. Decks and small bridges close to the water’s edge are great photo spots as well. If you walk in the morning or evening when the light is soft, you can feel the tranquil mood created by the lake and forest even more deeply.

Eunjuksa Temple

Eunjuksa Temple, located on the western slope of Seollim Mountain in Soryong-dong, Gunsan-si, is known as an ancient temple founded in the 3rd year of King Gyeongae of Silla and rebuilt in the 10th year of King Taejo of Goryeo. Thanks to its tranquil atmosphere steeped in long history, it is cherished as a place of prayer by Buddhists in the Gunsan area. Visiting here together with Eunpa Tourist Area allows for a deeper, more reflective experience.

Okguhyanggyo Confucian School

Founded in 1403, Okguhyanggyo enshrines the spirit tablets of Confucian sages and has long served as a place of education and moral instruction for local residents. After the Japanese invasions of Korea, it was moved and restored at its current location. With a Dangun Shrine honoring Dangun, Munchang Seowon enshrining a portrait of Choe Chiwon, and a memorial stele for King Sejong the Great, it presents a unique character. Together with a walk in Eunpa Lake Park, it’s a fitting place to feel Gunsan’s history and traditions.

Wild Lotus Habitat

A natural lotus habitat is located around the lake where you can enjoy lotus flowers in season. The blooms and green leaves floating on the still surface create an even more refreshing landscape. It’s a nice spot to pause by the pond during a leisurely walk and feel the change of seasons.

Lake Night View

After sunset, lights come on around Eunpa Mulbit Bridge and the lakeside, creating a completely different atmosphere from the daytime. Lights reflected on the water stretch and shimmer, and a soft glow lines the walking path, completing a romantic evening stroll. It’s a great time to walk slowly with a camera and capture memorable night scenes.

Travel Tip

If you really want to enjoy the night view, time your visit for after sunset, centering your route around Mulbit Bridge. From the moment it becomes fully dark, the lights on the lake and bridge are at their most beautiful.

Travel Tip

To comfortably explore the whole park and make use of various facilities, it’s best to plan a full-day visit. Since the area is quite large, allow extra time in your schedule for breaks in between.

Travel Tip

The lake and Mulbit Bridge are great for capturing reflections on the water, so try planning your shoot for soft light in the morning or evening. If you have a tripod, you’ll be able to take even clearer night photos.

The night view of Mulbit Bridge is best enjoyed from just after sunset.
For lake and reflection shots, aim for the soft light of morning or evening.
Because the park is large, it’s recommended to explore at a relaxed pace over a full day.

Travel Impressions

My first impression after visiting Eunpa Tourist Area in Gunsan was one of real ease. The park spread wide around the lake, with many people walking or resting, and the paths and lawns were well maintained for strolling. During the day there were many family visitors, and as the sun began to set, couples slowly filled the streets, taking photos as they went. As time passed, the whole park grew calmer yet warmer in feel, leaving a strong impression that it would suit those who prefer a quiet atmosphere over bustling places.

The complex is spacious but the route is not complicated, so it’s easy to walk without feeling burdened. Centered around the lakeside trail, there are plenty of benches and pavilions for rest, making it pleasant to walk a bit and then sit down to feel the breeze. Small bridges and walking decks over the lake let you feel the water up close, and I noticed many good photo spots. For food, more people seemed to use nearby restaurants and cafés than shops or food courts inside the park, and on nice days some visitors brought packed lunches and relaxed on the grass.

Including time to fully take in the scenery around the lake while walking and resting, about an hour and a half to two hours felt like enough to look around properly, and the mood was especially good around sunset. Accessibility was also fairly good, with ample parking so drivers didn’t seem to experience much inconvenience. You can reach the area by public transport as well, but having your own car made it much easier to plan flexible routes to nearby attractions. Personally, I wished there were a few more café and restaurant options nearby, and I found some parts of the walking trail a bit dark after sunset due to limited lighting. Even so, overall satisfaction was high, and it felt like a place you can easily add to a Gunsan itinerary—somewhere I’d naturally like to visit again.
