Impressions (Planned)
Today is November 7, 2025. That means the “Southernmost Yellowtail Festival,” held from November 20 to 23, is a festival I haven’t yet visited—one I’m eagerly imagining as a hotly anticipated experience. As the sea breeze at Moseulpo Port turns chilly, the sea tinged with a pale sunset stirs up excitement for the festival ahead. The briny touch of seawater on my fingertips, the creaking of boats against the waves, the slick, tender feel of yellowtail flesh—just picturing it brings a smile to my face. Around Moseulpo Port, hands-on activities like hand-catching yellowtail, auctions, and pen fishing are planned, promising a full, immersive encounter with Jeju’s sea.
Looking at the schedule, I can picture food and performances blending together. By day, local singers, a haenyeo singing contest, and the Yellowtail Song Festival will carry on the wind, and the festival grounds will come alive with laughter and chatter. I’m especially excited for the closing fireworks show—the “Fireworks of Hope”—that will light up the night sky, imagining the moment when starlight and fireworks illuminate the land around Moseulpo Port. It’s also thrilling that there’ll be plenty to eat. At the free tasting booth, the sweet, clean aroma of the sea from yellowtail sashimi will linger in the mouth, and the discount sales booths promise fresh flavors at relatively light prices, right before your eyes. While some experiences are paid, the sea-related activities seem easy to enjoy without too much burden—welcome news for travelers. Since the sea breeze can get strong, bringing a windbreaker and light gloves will make the activities more comfortable.
If I set a little aside in anticipation of this festival, I think it’ll make the experience even more meaningful. The heartbeat brushed by Jeju’s signature sea wind, the saltiness in the night air at Moseulpo Port, the emotion you feel as the festival lights reflect on the water—all of it makes me look forward to the days to come. After I visit, I’d love to share all the colors, sounds, and even the scents.
